This 55,000 square foot, masonry and prefabricated metal building, is a bright blue beacon to the Elementary Students of Harrington, Delaware. The school features a railroad motif, to reflect the heritage of it's town. The cafeteria and gym area of the school can be combined to become the auditorium, therefore maximizing space and minimizing cost. The new South Elementary School was built adjacent to the existing school and also to the WT Chipman Middle School. The proximity of a school in session and the need to have school busses flow from one parking area to another created unique challenges for this project. We at Ricahrd Y. Johnson & Son pride ourselves on our ability to find solutions to challenges like these. Our main interest is the happiness of the Owner, and in this case the safety and happiness of the community which this school is serving.
