Company History

Established in 1946, The Richard Y. Johnson Company devoted the first few years to building custom homes, professional offices, and other small commercial projects.

By 1964 the firm had grown to include larger commercial and industrial projects and at that time the name was changed to Richard Y. Johnson & Son, Inc. to reflect that second generation, Richard M. Johnson had joined the company. In 1971 Richard M. Johnson became Chief Executive Officer of the firm, and the company continued to grow into larger commercial, institutional, and government projects in the region.

During the 1970’s, the firm embraced the growing trend towards Construction Management and continues to be a leading Construction Management firm in Delaware. Projects included renovations to Legislative Hall, the Tatnall Building, and the Richardson and Robertson Building, all in Dover.

Today Richard Y. Johnson & Son, Inc. is a third generation, family owned and operated company under the leadership of brothers Mark and Dean Johnson. Located since its inception in Lincoln, Delaware, the firm remains dedicated to the community and is proud that all of its staff are Delaware residents. Through our  diversity of experience, dedicated personnel, and reputation for fairness we have developed a loyal group of trade contractors that enable Richard Y. Johnson & Son, Inc. continues to provide our clients with feasibility, pre-construction, general construction, construction management, and design-build services for projects ranging from interior office fit-outs  to  multi-million dollar new construction such as libraries and new schools.
